Waxing Nostalgic

On my way home tonight, I heard a song from long ago 'The Stroke' from Billy Squire.
Whatever happened to him? I knew a gal from philly said he was doing a show by opening up a Bookstore a few years ago, so sad. I know T loved him. I saw him w/ my high school sweetheart, 'Jimmy' when I was sixteen. Ratt opened up for him. Of course the 'Stroke Me' song performance was as sexually charged and graphically orchestrated as you might have imagined and at age sixteen that was pretty damn cool to see a rock star take a towel back and forth between his thighs and then use his hands to simulate.. well... you get the idea. Now common place stuff in rock videos.

Then I heard a rock song from Eric clapton. What's that crap he's been putting out the last five or six years (besides any blues stuff)? Then there's Rod Stewart, wtf happened to him in the last decade or longer?

AC/DC is good rock, but really, let's be honest, Angus just knows ONE song, he knows it really really well and can do several variations of it w/ different lyrics, but come on now, let's tell the truth.

Then the Eagles go on a Farewell tour, then another one, then another... not for money for sure w/ their tickets costing way too much on their 'farewell tourS. They quit rockin' a while back too.

What will the kids of today wax nostalgic over.. the good ole days when pop was really good classic bubblegum and you couldn't tell brittany from jessica or christina? I don't even know enough to make bad jokes about it!

Time for a Funny Story

Well, it's time for another Light hearted story.
As some of you know by now, some strange and often humiliating things seem to happen to me.

This is one of my prouder moments. In my former life, I was a program manager at a community mental health center. We ran a day center that was really groovy, where people could come and hang out and have really meaningful activities, learn skills, make friends, go on activities and have a place where they felt like they belonged - like we all need in life.
Well, I was asked to go to a monthly mtg for lunch and to say just a few words at 'a ladies Methodist meeting at a church' b/c they were going to donate some money to our program. I am TERRIFIED of speaking in front of people, but I thought, this would just be a small group of women, so I was cool w/ it and didn't really prepare, b/c Hell, I'd been doing this work for years, I knew it well. But when I got to the church, Church Street United Methodist St church for those of you here locally, which is a larger church,, it wasn't just for the ladies at that church, it was for ALL THE METHODIST WOMEN IN KNOXVILLE club monthly mtg and the whole parking lot was full.
I was tripping out, full on freaking out man!! I had to sit through lunch and then talk at the very end, after a very well spoken woman who was talking about very important racial issues. I had about one and half hours to think about whether I would vomit or pass out or both I was so nervous. There must have been 200 or more people there. Well I ended up at the podium and still to this day I have no idea what I said. But they listened, and they clapped when I left and gave me a check for $300 dollars, which went towards our Christmas presents that year.

But, that's not the bad part. As soon as it was over, I took off, ran the hell out of there and was one of the first people out and so all these people were behind me to see.. This (and if you know this church, you know the parking lot, it's at about a 45 degree angle), I twisted my ankle, or stepped on a rock or something, and I fell down and rolled and kept rolling skirt over head, head over heels,, until I hit a car and stopped.
Yeah that looked good, real professional. Of course I didn't care if I was hurt, I just jumped up, put my skirt back down, that was up around my waist and said 'I'm not hurt' b/c there was a crowd around me. And a tad disoriented as to where my car was,, found it and ran away as quick as I could.
I still look at that parking lot now and remember that long hard head over heels tumble.
Of course that wasn't bad enough. Right after that, I had my yearly ob/gyn appt. So, I'm lying in the stirrups of course and the Nurse Practioner, who I really like, notices my knees all bloody and cut up and my ankle all swollen and says 'what has happened to you?" and so I recount the story to her. She says 'I'm sorry, you don't mind if I laugh, b/c you are laughing?" and of course she doesn't wait for my ok,, she and I are both now in tears and I'm just glad the speculum isn't in at this point. She treats my knees for first aid though and all my other abrasions.
Oh well. I got three hundred bucks for the program and a good story!

Stigmata of the Right wing

I had another post, but thought better of it,, probably should have thought better of this one.. but....I was talking about being a moody bitch this past year..
But I haven't killed anyone.
But the State of Calif did and they didn't have to. And we still do in Iraq and our Soldiers still die over there.
I could say all kinds of reasons why I don't support capital punishment, but it doesn't matter, I don't want to change minds or get your support, your mind is yours and mine is mine. And why I don't Support the War is up to me, I don't think for a minute I could suggest that anyone who at this POINT who still supports it I could change their mind. But I support our soldiers, I sure do. But they aren't being done right.

Violence begets Violence, this WE KNOW is true. I bet we see this now w/ the gangs in the streets b/c now they have been taught that there is no redemption. I guess that whole Cross Thing didn't mean shit, ey? Love, Forgiveness, Tolerence, Kindness, Christmas?? Instead of asking What would would Jesus do, ask the real question, who would Jesus Kill? That Right wing should have burning Hands w/ that Bible they keep waving in their clutches!

The Most Beautiful Music On Earth

Well, he has been mentioned a few times, but I have yet to dedicate the full post he deserves.
I'm talking about the flute boy, er.. the recorder boy. David Young. Who makes 'the most beautiful music on Earth'.
In October, Lisa and I went to Louisville Ky to the St James Art Show. We saw some strange things there. He was among the strangest and most irritating.

We heard him before we saw him. The waifing around of sounds of ear-grating covers of Celine Dion,, made from plastic recorders like the one my 2 year old niece has. And there he was, flute..er.. recorder boy. Wearing pajamas w/ his Yanni hair and some tough looking guy behind him w/ a marine shirt, stocking his cd's. (Your guess about their relationship is as good as mine!) The poster in the back of his booth said 'How can 600,000, Paul McCartney and four soap opera's be wrong?"
Well I'm here to tell you they are. Wrong, wrong, wrong!
The poster says that Paul led a standing ovation. I'm thinking he was getting up to leave.
I tell my friend that we have go back the next day to get a picture of this guy who is so confident in himself w/ his plastic toys, yet is next to the hot funnel cakes and the dip dogs. But I'm laughing so hard when I approach him, I'm unable to do it. So, she takes the camera and approaches him and when she does, he takes notice and picks up the second 'recorder' and shows his innate ability to hold 'two in his mouth at once'. (yes, two at once!!) After the picture, he then coaxes us to come over and tells us about his book and new dvd movie that we can purchase ('You can take it out and put it back in the book and no one will know and then give it as gift" he suggested). He described the movie being about a young boy who loses his hearing and an angel comes down from heaven and gives him the gift of music and guess what? Guess who plays the part of the angel, yes that would be Mr. David himself.

I suggest you peruse his website and watch the video. I know it might hurt a bit, I'm not going to lie to you, but there is no way to grasp the full reality of him unless you hear and see him. And then you can answer the question "Is David Young the romantic, pied piper of the 21st century? or just one of the most unique, hard working, multi-talented self starters in the music biz who, with his last $100 launched his own record company that has now sold over 600,000 CD’s." Who also apparently at one time imitated Angus in an AC/DC cover band.
Enjoy the most beautiful music on earth.... I give you... David f..king Young.

Iddy Biddy

You should click on the picture to enlarge it.
This is back in the fall of 2003, me and some family and took a groovy campin trip on the Blue Ridge parkway and I took my little boy Iddy Biddy. Christmas Always reminds me of Iddy Biddy. We got way lost on our way to this camping trip, thanks to crappy directions from MapQuest. Anyways, we stopped at this rest stop in North Carolina and had this picture made and right after this, a bus of elderly people surrounded me and the boy doggie and we a tourist event for about 45 minutes. It was pretty fun and sometimes things just happen for a reason b/c they had fun and that boy seemed to enjoy going from person to person. He was used to it. If you are just hearing about the little baby now on my blog.. he used to be my baby that I took to be a pet therapy dog at a hospital at the transitional unit and he was just was one of those angel dogs. He also was missing a lower jaw and all his teeth and some of legs had been broken and never healed right. But he had never cared. He just was pure love. He was the biggest teacher to me of what God is here on earth about uncondition love. I just had him two years. It just wasn't near long enough! He went into the Light June 14th 2004th Peace be upon that sweet soul.

Festive Big Hair Friday

TGIF! Hey there, for NEXT FRIDAY, lets do something fun and potentially humilating.
Dust off those photo albums and scanners and find all those big hair pictures from the 80's or even 90's and then Next friday post 'em. And if you are a guy, put up a mullet picture, or a girl too if you like. I had a mullett as well when I was a sophmore - they were IN style and I did grow up in MARYVILLE, I do have some excuses. But mainly I just spent at least a good decade in really big, really bad big hair.
When you post your picture, just swing by the site here and leave a comment and then we can all go check them out. I'll be sure to post several of mine, some during the bleachy haired stage when I was called 'julie bon jovi' and I'll try to find a mullett one as well.
And don't worry Shea, I have several of yours and since you don't have a blog, I'll be glad to put one up for you! What are sister in law's for? I think I have one of you w/ my brother both in your Ray Bans, showing his Rat tail - yes, that would be perfect.
Oh what festive fun!! I'm excited already!!

Have a groovy weekend everyone and Jed, come get that dog!

Happy times now.. happy times...

Well, I went ahead and deleted that negative post. That's enough venting, which is good sometimes, but that's enough of that crap. Things are going very well for me right now and I'd rather focus on that.
Some wonderful things I enjoy are music and I'd like to share some of that w/ you all.
Some of my favorite live streams are:
WUTC which is the University of Tenn at Chatt (also npr affliate), they have really eclectic music, from Lucinda Wms to Willie Nelson, to Wilco to Van Morrison to Robert Johnson to the Cure. They don't have bubblegum pop. they are probably my most favorite station in the whole wide world. I listen to them while driving down to chatt all the time. I can hear them beginning in Lenior city.
Then this time of year, they play nothing but Holiday music, so if that your thang and you are in the festive mood, check out EZ 88. The rest of the year, they are alright, pretty relaxing stuff, but every now and then they do throw in a damn John Tesh or Yanni, ugh.
Then we have this really groovy s/w blue grass and mix station WDVX here in town. They play some local musicians as well.
My sweet Friend and I were talking the other day, Who would have ever thought that Live Stream would have ever meant listening to something on the internet?
Or avatar would be a more than a God type thing. Or spam wasn't just a delicious and nutricious luncheon meat? Or to copy and Paste wasn't something w/ construction paper in kindergarten?
